The Senate and House of Representatives will reconvene on March 5 as committees conclude ongoing budget defence sessions.
  • The National Assembly has postponed its plenary resumption from Tuesday, February 24, 2026, to Thursday, March 5, 2026
  • The postponement is to allow various committees conclude ongoing budget defence sessions tied to the 2026 Appropriation Bill
  • The leadership of the legislature expressed regret over any inconvenience caused and urged members to note the new date

The National Assembly has announced a shift in the date for the resumption of plenary, moving it from Tuesday, February 24, 2026, to Thursday, March 5, 2026.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday, February 23, by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana. According to him, the adjustment became necessary to allow lawmakers sufficient time to complete ongoing budget defence sessions.

The statement reads, “This is to inform Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members of the National Assembly that the resumption of plenary session earlier scheduled for Tuesday, 24th February 2026 has been postponed.

“This postponement is to enable committees of the Assembly to conclude ongoing budget defence sessions.”

It added, “Plenary will now reconvene in both chambers on Thursday, 5th March 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members are kindly requested to take note of the new resumption date and time.”

The postponement comes as lawmakers continue deliberations on the 2026 Appropriation Bill, with several committees still conducting budget defence meetings with ministries, departments, and agencies.

Both the Senate and the House of Representatives are now expected to resume plenary at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 5 to proceed with legislative business.

The leadership apologised for any inconvenience the change may cause and urged members to take note of the updated resumption date.
