The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the 2024 Ondo State governorship election.

Aiyedatiwa’s victory marks a significant political achievement as he was declared winner after securing victory in all 18 local government areas (LGAs) of the state.

In a final announcement made at the State Collation Centre in Akure on Sunday, November 17, the State Returning Officer, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, confirmed that Aiyedatiwa received a total of 366,781 votes, decisively defeating his closest rival, Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 117,845 votes.

The announcement followed the completion of results from all 18 LGAs, with Aiyedatiwa having won across the board, including the final results from Ese Odo Local Government Area, which were presented on Sunday, November 17.

In his statement, Prof. Akinwumi declared, “That Ayedatiwa Lucky Orimisan of APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby returned elected.”

Aiyedatiwa’s victory comes after a fiercely contested election, with intense campaigning from both the APC and PDP. Despite the challenges, the APC maintained a commanding lead throughout the collation process, which was closely followed by citizens and political observers alike.

With this win, Aiyedatiwa will serve as the governor of Ondo State for the next four years, solidifying the APC's hold on the state’s leadership.

Party leaders and supporters have begun celebrating the victory as Aiyedatiwa rounds off the tenure started by his late principal, Rotimi Akeredolu.
