Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State on Wednesday staged a large-scale solidarity walk in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The event, tagged “TinubuDatiwa Half a Million Walk 2027”, was led by the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and held at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure. It was organised by Kehinde Akinrotoye, a former Senior Special Assistant on Sports and coordinator of the TinubuDatiwa Support Group.
Addressing participants, Governor Aiyedatiwa commended the large turnout, describing the initiative as both impressive and encouraging for the President’s re-election bid. He noted that the walk formed part of a broader series of grassroots mobilisation activities across the state.
“This is a healthy initiative put together by one of the support groups in Ondo State in support of the re-election of President Bola Tinubu,” the governor said, adding that similar efforts were ongoing in preparation for 2027.
Aiyedatiwa, who described himself as a “foremost patron” of the support groups, said his presence underscored his commitment to the movement. He expressed satisfaction with the diverse participation, which included government officials, civil servants, artisans and civil society members.
The governor projected strong electoral support for the President, expressing confidence that Ondo State could deliver up to one million votes in the next general election. He also urged coordinators to intensify mobilisation at the grassroots level, emphasising the importance of engagement within wards and local government areas.
Beyond its political significance, Aiyedatiwa highlighted the health benefits of the exercise, noting that walking promotes physical fitness, mental alertness and overall well-being.
Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Henry Omoyofunmi, said the turnout reflected growing support for the APC’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.
In his remarks, Akinrotoye explained that the walk was designed to galvanise support across the state’s three senatorial districts and 18 local government areas.
“This Half a Million Man Walk is a testament to the trust and confidence we have in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership,” he said, adding that the group remained committed to ensuring electoral success in 2027.
The event underscores increasing political mobilisation within the APC as preparations gradually intensify for the next election cycle.
