Renowned Nollywood actor and academic Columbus Irosanga, known for his portrayals of villain characters, has reportedly passed away. 

Columbus’ death comes barely 24 hours after Nollywood actress Pat Ugwu was confirmed dead on February 5, 2025. It also comes weeks after the death of Veteran actor Asa Koko was announced. 

Via her official Instagram page, on Thursday, February 6, Veteran actress Hilda Dukubo, shared the news with fans and colleagues. 


There can't be a shortage of Angels in heaven that the few here are called home like this na! This one is heavy on Uniport, Rivers state and Nollywood. 

Our uncle Coli @colu_mbusirisoanga has gone to be with the lord. Ikoli eh dein na mu.” she wrote. 

Fans and colleagues have taken to social media to express their condolences and share their thoughts about the late Nollywood actor. 

As at the time of this report, the circumstances surrounding his death is sketchy and yet to be confirmed. 

About late Columbus Irosanga 

The Nollywood actor was born and raised in Okrika, Rivers State. He was popularly known for his character portrayals of villaans, especially as a Native doctor in Nollywood films. 

Columbus is also known for his role as ‘Igbudu’ in the classic 2001 blockbuster film Isakaba. His acting career, which spans across decades, earned him several accolades, including Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) and Best Actor in a Drama at the City People Entertainment Awards. 

He has also won awards for the Most Promising Actor in Nigeria at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), and Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Best of Nollywood Awards.

Aside from acting, the late veteran was a senior lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Port Harcourt. While in the school, he trained, taught and mentored aspiring actors.

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that Nollywood was hit with numerous deaths in 2024.

From John Okafor (Mr Ibu) and Amaechi Munagor to Sharon Okpamen, many big names left the scene permanently, with a void that cannot be easily filled.
