Via his official Instagram page, on Thursday, January 30, filmmaker, Kunle Afod, announced the death of the veteran actor through a video clip.
The video clip captured Kunle during a visit to Asa Koko’s home and how the filmmaker hailed the veteran’s prowess.
“May his soul rest in peace. Asa Koko hmmmm, it's a wrap.” Kunle captioned the video.
Cause of Asa Koko’s death
Veteran Nollywood actor Asa Koko was said to have passed away after battling an undisclosed illness for over two years.
In a YouTube video posted on May 9, 2024, Kunle Afod shared what transpired from his last visit to Asa Koko’s home and how the late actor narrated his health challenges.
“It’s been a long time since I visited Mushin. I came to see one of our elders and veterans. I am so such that most of you will not know this man. He is a great man that has done his best in the movie industry.” Kunle introduced the veteran.
In the video, Asa Koko, speaking plainly in Yoruba, revealed how he has been struggling with an undisclosed illness that left his legs swollen.
“I was hospitalised on the Island for two years. I was battling injuries. The Lagos State governor even visited me during the treatment. I don't know what is wrong.” Asa Koko narrated.
He further showed Kunle Afod his packs of diagnosed drugs and appreciated God for keeping him thus far.
Kunle Afod, who had previously raised funds for him, used the opportunity to remind the younger generation not to neglect Nollywood’s veterans.
Meanwhile, tributes from colleagues like Iyabo Ojo and fans have been pouring in to reflect Asa Koko’s impactful career on the Yoruba film industry.

The 75-year-old veteran actor Asa Koko was a prominent figure in the Yoruba segment of Nollywood. Though, his full name was rarely known.
His career boasts of over a decade in the Nollywood industry. He has featured in numerous Yoruba-language films.
Asa Koko gained recognition for his distinctive acting style and significant contributions to the industry.
Beyond his celebrity status, Asa Koko lived a relatively private life. The veteran was known to have married 10 wives.
Prior to his recently announced death, he had been vocal about the struggles of aging veteran actors and called for support for them.
The actor, who resided in the Mushin axis of Lagos, owned a self-titled canteen, Asa Koko before his passing.
