The popular Nigerian gospel singer and songwriter, who just clocked 40, found music at the early age of 10 and his consistency on the path is evident.
Celebrating 40 years of his existence, Oyekan took to his Instagram page to share photos of himself in gratitude to God for His faithfulness.
“I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever, with my mouth I will make known His faithfulness to all generations. This is 40! Thank you Jesus.” he captioned.
Fans and colleagues gushing over his photos expressed their heartfelt wishes to the gospel music minister as he begins a new chapter in his life.
Early background and finding music
Dunsin Oyekan hails from Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State in Nigeria. He was born into the family of Gbadebo Oyekan, the general overseer of the Evangelical Baptist Church. Rarely known, but Oyekan was married to Adedoyin Oyekan in 2013 before her demise in 2019. They are blessed with two children.
At 10, Oyekan could play the guitar, inspired by his father’s influence, who once led ‘Spiritual Singers,’ —a music group that was focused on connecting with God through music. Oyekan, an Industrial Chemistry graduate at the University of Ilorin, was called fully into the worship ministry in 2014.
A decade later, Oyekan still dedicates his time and life to blessing the world through the music that God has imparted. He nurtures an undying passion for worshipping God through his sounds and raising worshippers in the music ministry.
Consistent impact on the Nigerian gospel industry
With over two decades in the gospel music industry, Dunsin Oyekan has remained consistent in his worship ministry. Through these years, he has birthed revolutionary songs, sang in the choir and served as a choir director.
His discography boasts six albums Code Red (2016), Kingdom Now (2019), The Gospel of The Kingdom (2021), The Glory Experience —Songs of Zion (2022), The Birth of Revival (2023) and The Great Commission (2024). Some of his notable hits include Fragrance to Fire, Kadosh, Breathe, and I’ll Be Here.
Oyekan is the convener of the Upper Room, a popular weekly worship experience in Nigeria, The Outpouring, a revival meeting and Code Red, an annual worship event he holds for worshippers.
In the Nigerian gospel scene, Oyekan has proved himself to be one of the most respected singers alongside his colleagues Nathaniel Bassey, Mercy Chinwo, and Victoria Orenze.
