Following its return to Nigeria, music awards platform, The Headies has officially released its nominations list for its 17th edition. 

The list saw popular artistes and producers nominated in various categories ahead of the anticipated music award ceremony. 

Via its official Instagram page, on Wednesday, February 12, The Headies announced Afrobeats stars Tems, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Sarz and Lojay as contenders for its Best Recording of the Year category.

Songs selected for Best Recording of the Year category 

Tems was selected for her song Burning while Burna Boy’s Higher secured his nomination. Ayra Starr was nominated for her song Last Heartbreak Song. 

In addition, Seyi Vibez for Different Patterns will contest for Best Recording of the Year while Sarz and Lojay’s Billion also made the category. 

According to The Headies, The Best Recording of The Year category requires no vote but will be determined by judges’ requirements of excellence in terms of songwriting, production and rendition. 

Meanwhile, the nomination window for the 17th edition was from April 1, 2023, to July 31, 2024. The award ceremony will be held on April 5, 2025.

Nigerian artistes who won ‘Next Rated’ Headies Awards category 

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that since the Headies Awards, formerly known as ‘Hip Hop’ debuted in 2006, it has witnessed Nigerian artistes win in different categories. The ‘Next Rated’ is one of them.

The ‘Next Rated’ category is given to emerging artistes who have shattered boundaries in the industry to set remarkable standards for themselves. TheRadar compiled a list of winners since inception.
