Nigerian popular gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey has expressed gratitude to God for surviving four decades and three years as he turned 43. 

The admired singer, who was born on August 27, 1972, via his official Instagram page, penned a note of gratitude to God for sparing his life. 

Dearest Father, Thank you for yet another year. Another Birthday anniversary. Each Coles reminds me of your faithfulness. For the gift of Life, Grace, Goodness and Mercy, Family, Friends, and loved ones. Thank you, Jesus. Jeremiah 33:3. Psalms 3:3. Isaiah 43:19.” He wrote. 

Fans and colleagues have taken to the comment section to celebrate the icon as he marked his 43rd birthday anniversary.

  • Personal life 

Nathaniel Bassey is a Nigerian gospel singer, pastor and trumpeter. The gospel sensation was born to a pastoral home. His father was Pastor E Joshua Bassey of the Apostolic Church Bashua Assembly. Nathaniel grew with a strong passion for music, so great that it attracted Fela Kuti’s manager Steve Rhodes. Steve Rhodes later offered him the platform to join the Steve Rhodes Orchestra, where Nathaniel became the lead trumpeter and member of the Jazz music group for two years. However, some years later, Nathaniel Bassey was said to have listened to a song he composed for his church during Stella Obasanjo’s visit and that was the turning point when he decided to return fully to gospel music. Over the years, Nathaniel has established himself as one of the prominent and most listened-to gospel singers in Nigeria and beyond.

  • Education 

Nathaniel indeed is well educated with a degree in Politics and International Relations in London University. To pursue and develop his music career, the singer has also studied the art of music both in Nigeria and abroad notably at the Middlesex Summer School in the United Kingdom. 

  • Music Career

Nathaniel Bassey’s music career spans over three decades with soul-lifting and gospel songs that have touched many lives. The gospel icon started his music career in the church before joining a secular Jazz music orchestra, the Rhodes orchestra. In 2018, Nathaniel was one of the leading artiste of the Nigerian large Christian gathering, The Experience. The singer has 13 studio albums to his credit. Some which include; Someone’s at the Door (2010), Revival Flames (2017) and The King is Coming (2019). His songs spans across different genres such as Jazz, worship, hymns and medley.

  • Halleluyah Challenge 

The Imela crooner once broke the internet in June 2017. For 30 days, Nathaniel Bassey held Nigerians with his popular Halleluyah Challenge tagged “Olowogbogboro” in which he had live worship of songs at midnight for one hour on Facebook and Instagram. Many Nigerians defied sleep to join the challenges and it was reported that many testimonies of healing and breakthroughs were recorded. The challenge at the time got the attention of the CNN as well as several celebrities in Nigeria, who commended the initiative. In less than a month, the event was said to have gathered over 600,000 views. The challenge continues till date.
