  • Onoh emphasised the Ooni’s role in bridging cultural gaps, particularly highlighting historical connections between the Igbo and Yoruba nations through oral traditions tracing back to Ile-Ife
  • Recent acknowledgments from the Benin Kingdom's emissaries further underscore the Ooni's status as a unifying figure among Nigeria's various ethnic groups
  • Onoh praised the Ooni’s leadership qualities, noting that his outreach across societal divides showcases his preparedness for leadership long before his ascension to the throne

Dr. Josef Onoh, former campaign spokesman for President Bola Tinubu in the South East, has hailed the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), as a vital asset in the quest for national unity in Nigeria.

In a heartfelt message commemorating the monarch’s golden jubilee, Onoh praised the Ooni’s versatility and deep understanding of Nigeria’s diverse cultural histories.

Onoh highlighted the Ooni’s efforts in bridging cultural gaps, particularly through his assertions of the historical connections between the Igbo and Yoruba nations.

He noted that the Ooni has often referenced the ancient ties between the two groups, supported by oral narratives and traditions that trace back to Ile-Ife, the Yoruba cradle city.

The recent acknowledgment from emissaries of the Benin Kingdom further emphasised the Ooni’s role as a unifying figure among various Nigerian ethnic groups.

“In just a few years since ascending the throne at a young age, Ojaja II has built bridges across different sections of Nigeria,” Onoh remarked.

“He exemplifies what our youth can achieve for the country’s development. His outreach across societal and geopolitical divides showcases his preparedness for leadership long before he was crowned.”

Onoh’s message included poetic reflections on the Ooni’s influence, likening his charisma to a magnetic force that draws people together.

“Your magnetic influence is akin to a stone attracting iron rings, forming a chain that connects us all,”

“You are not only my King but also a true friend, brother, confidant, and family. Your wise counsel and support have profoundly impacted my life.” he stated.

As the Ooni celebrates his 50th birthday, Onoh expressed heartfelt wishes for his continued reign.

“May the sun never set in your dominion. Happy birthday!” he concluded, underscoring the Ooni’s significance in fostering unity and cultural pride across Nigeria.

“E remain public holiday”: Nigerians criticise Ooni for erecting statue in honour of Remi Tinubu

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has faced criticism on social media after unveiling a golden statue of the First Lady Oluremi Tinubu in the Obafemi Awolowo University, Osun State on Thursday, October 10.

Many Nigerians, who thought the statue was quite unnecessary, took to social media to berate the First Lady and the monarch for their insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians in the present administration.
