The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will officially launch Energise Commercialisation Now (ECoN), a Federal Government initiative focused on innovation and industrialisation, in Kano on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
The programme is aimed at driving innovation, attracting investment, and boosting industrial production across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, announced the development during a press conference on Thursday, April 16.
According to him, the event will hold between April 23 and April 25 and will feature several activities across the state.
“The landmark event will place Kano State and the entire North-West geopolitical zone at the forefront of Nigeria’s innovation-driven economic transformation,” he said.
“Kano State has been honoured to host the national launch and the North-West zonal deployment of this historic programme under the distinguished leadership of Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who will serve as the Special Guest of Honour and officially launch the initiative,” he added.
Waiya explained that the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, is leading the flagship ECoN programme.
He said the three-day national launch and North-West zonal event will take place in Kano State from April 23 to April 25, 2026.
The commissioner noted that the programme is expected to attract representatives from both the Federal and State Governments, including governors and First Ladies from the North-West.
He added that research institutions, universities, polytechnics, innovators, inventors, startups, private investors, manufacturers, industry groups, development finance institutions, international partners, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders are also expected to attend.
According to Waiya, the First Lady’s official launch of the initiative will be followed by a high-level panel discussion focused on federal-state collaboration for innovation and industrialisation.
There will also be a mini exhibition showcasing selected innovations.
“With the support of the First Lady, the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, and all stakeholders, Energise Commercialisation Now will unlock the innovative potential of our people and create lasting prosperity,” Waiya added.

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria unveiled a #OneNigeria/UnityFabric, which was designed by Mofinyinfoluwa Bamidele, a 25-year-old University of Ibadan graduate.
The First Lady disclosed that the #OneNigeria/UnityFabric was a competition launched in February 2024, inviting youths aged 15-25 to submit designs symbolising Nigeria’s unity.
