- Former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke, is facing trials for fraud and bribery in Nigeria and in the UK
- Diezani did not stop using her ex-husband's name even after their divorce in 2022
- Her ex-husband is now seeking a court order to stop her from using his name
In a dramatic turn of events, former military governor of Anambra and Imo states, Rear Admiral Alison Makuede, has filed a petition seeking an injunction to prevent his ex-wife, Diezani Alison-Madueke, from using his first and last name.
Following their divorce in 2022, Diezani retained her ex-husband’s name and now, he is asking the court to order Diezani to revert to her maiden name, Agama and to publish it in national newspapers and in the United Kingdom.
Diezani, a former Minister of Petroleum, has been a controversial figure due to allegations of corruption and misconduct during her tenure.
Madueke, citing the need to protect his family's reputation, has described Diezani's actions as a source of embarrassment and disgrace, prompting his move to legally dissociate her from the family name.
During her tenure as minister of petroleum, it was alleged that she embezzled the sum of $90 billion. Her husband said that Diezani’s use of his name poses financial risks to him due to her trials in Nigeria and the United Kingdom
Recently, in a documentary, Omoyele Sowore revealed that the former minister is so wealthy in embezzlement that she even rented her Yacht to Jay Z.
Nigerians react to Diezani's husband's petition
When the news got to social media, many Nigerians condemned Diezani’s ex-husband for trying to disassociate himself from her after they enjoyed the loot together. Some others expressed their support for the former naval chief.
