  • He claimed that no woman has the right to make that complaint, citing civilisation and wokeness as the reason for changing values
  • VDM's opinion has triggered reactions from netizens who gave their takes on the controversy

Nigerian social media critic Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has sparked controversy with his reaction to a viral video of a lady complaining about the quality and quantity of food she received from My Food by Hilda

The lady had ordered pepper soup worth N6,000 and expressed her disappointment in the food's packaging and portion size.

VeryDarkMan took an unexpected stance, arguing that the world has become "spoiled" due to "civilisation and wokeness."

He claimed that women should not complain about food quality, as it was previously considered taboo for them to buy food from restaurants. Instead, he believed that women should cook for themselves.

He stated:

Alright, you heard her saying she bought pepper soup from Hilda Baci for 6,000 naira. First of all, it was small, and secondly, it looked like dog vomit.
“For me, does it look like dog vomit? Maybe, because it looked funny, but here is the thing;
This world is spoiled, and many say it is civilisation and wokeness. In the past, women were ashamed to plan on buying food from a restaurant.
“They viewed it as taboo to pay another woman money for food when they could make it themselves. And no matter how tired a single lady feels, she must cook for herself, in so doing, preparing herself for marriage to avoid excuses to her husband and children.
“This lady can boldly come out to complain about food, which is a sign that this wokeness of a thing is ruining a lot of things. Men should be the ones complaining about food.
“As a woman, you have no right to make this kind of complaint. I am not saying there should not be equality, I am just stating that this world is spoiled with this wokeness thing.”

He also criticised My Food by Hilda's packaging, adding that it was unacceptable for a big brand to serve such low-quality.

Reactions trail VeryDarkman's comment on soup controversy

Very Dark Man's comments have sparked a heated debate online, with many disagreeing with his views on women's roles and responsibilities.

@bamzydam stated: “I don't even think VDM understands the context he's talking about. Maybe he's just generalising it. Cos from the girls' video, she said she wanted to use the pepper soup to boil rice. More or less, it's like buying pepper and grinding it.”

“No PTSD abroad,” Nigerians react as VeryDarkMan criticises Burna Boy for walking off stage

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that VeryDarkMan weighed in on the controversy surrounding Burna Boy's recent concert in Nigeria for kicking a fan off the stage and abruptly ending his performance.

He questioned the artiste's claim, pointing out that his PTSD only seems to be triggered in Nigeria.
