  • He criticised the government’s censorship and proposed using social media to amplify the song’s message
  • The social media activist hinted at featuring a Tinubu lookalike to highlight national hardship and insecurity through satire

Social media activist VeryDarkMan has pledged to fund the production of a new video for Nigerian rapper Eedris Abdulkareem's protest song, Tell Your Papa, which was recently banned by the Nigerian government.

The Federal Government, through the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), prohibited the song on Thursday, April 10, deeming it "inappropriate and offensive."

The track, which addresses issues of national hardship and insecurity, gained significant attention following the ban, sparking discussions across social media platforms.

In response to the government's action, VeryDarkMan criticised the ban, asserting that the song's message highlights the prevailing challenges faced by Nigerians.

He questioned the rationale behind suppressing content that reflects the country's realities, stating, "Isn't there hardship in the country? Ain't people dying from insecurity?"

VeryDarkMan announced plans to collaborate with Abdulkareem on a new video for Tell Your Papa, aiming to amplify its reach beyond traditional media channels.

He proposed featuring a lookalike of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the video, given the challenges of involving the President himself. The activist emphasized the importance of utilizing social media to disseminate the song, highlighting, "We are going to take it over by social media."

#EndBadGovernance Protests: Federal Government drops treason charges against minors

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that the Federal Government dropped treason charges against minors involved in the nationwide #EndBadGovernance Protests.

President Bola Tinubu ordered the immediate withdrawal of the charges and an investigation into the minors' arrest.

Justice Egwuatu officially struck out the charges following the attorney general's request.

The application to discontinue the case, made by the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF), Mr Mohammed Abubakar, was based on sections 174(1)(b) and (c) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Section 108 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015.

The Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation also requested that the proceedings be held without the minors present in the courtroom, citing Section 266(b) of the ACJA, 2015, and Section 1 of the Child Rights Act.
