Afrobeats singer Ololade Ahmed known as Asake has finally opened up about the reason behind his controversial new look.
The 30-year-old singer is among notable Nigerian celebrities who have left the internet buzzing for their controversial transformations.
During an interview at the 2025 Grammys, on Monday, February 3, Asake expressed his thoughts on it when asked about the inspiration behind his new look.
"This is how I feel now, I love to feel comfortable with myself. I love to do the things that I feel like are good for me. It is not about anybody.” He said.
Asake, who was nominated for Best African Music Performance, noted that his tattoos are something he might change his mind on at any time.
“I can wake up tomorrow and you might not see any tattoos on my face.” Asake added.
Asake shares thoughts on Grammy nomination
During the interview, Asake also spoke about his notable Grammy nominations alongside other Nigerian stars.
For the singer, being selected was a blessing and he doesn’t take it for granted to be among the 2025 nominees.
“I feel blessed. You know in everything that happens to me, I always give thanks to God. I know that there are so many people that want it. For me to be part of the ones that got it, I feel blessed.”
He further extended his appreciation to the organisers of the Grammys Awards for recognising his music contributions.
“I feel honored. Thank you Grammys.”
Asake says he is in his military era
Speaking during the interview, Asake, dressed in a military inspired outfit also talked about the inspiration behind it.
“Yes, yes. I’m wearing a custom design from PDF. He is my good friend. We designed this together because you know, I’m in my military times and that’s the trend.” He expressed.
From his jacket, to shirt, pants and shoes, Asake noted that it was all custom made by his designer PDF.
