Google Nigeria has officially revealed its 2024 Year in Search, offering a comprehensive look at the most popular searches that resonated with Nigerians over the past year.

This compilation showcased the individuals who captured Nigerians’ interest, the hottest music tracks, the most talked-about movies, and the intriguing questions that sparked conversations among the populace.

The Google Year in Search released on Tuesday, December 10, showed that Nigeria had the US Elections, National Grid and New National Anthem as the most searched words for its news category.

The search engine giant report also revealed that for top personalities, Nigerians were more interested in Bobrisky, Shallipopi and Khaid.

Afrobeats songs I Don’t Care by Boy Spyce, Ozeba by Rema and Commas by Ayra Star dominated the Nigerian music scene as top three searches.

For most searched movies, Funke Akindele’s A Tribe Called Judah, Treasure in The Sky and Damsel, among others, took the top spots. On the other hand,  Supacell, My Demon and Queen of Tears topped TV series searches.

Among other top searches, Nigerians were concerned about their personal well-being and global events, as reflected in their search question trends.

They asked questions like, “How much is the dollar to the naira today?” " How can I get perfectly defined curls for African hair?” and “Who won the US presidential election?”

To satisfy their curiosity, they asked Google for answers to find out the meanings of words like ‘demure,’ ‘steeze,’ and ‘pet peeves’ on their top list.

Reacting to the newly released Google 2024 Year in Search results, the Communications and Public Affairs Manager, West Africa, Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, said the 2024 Year in Search reflected Nigerians’ interests and conversations.

According to him, it displayed a wide diversity in perspectives of Nigerians, capturing their interests in 2024.

The results offer a unique perspective on what Nigerians searched for and were interested in during the year,” Kola-Ogunlade said.
