1. 2027 presidency: Atiku, Obi alliance can’t unseat Tinubu, declares APC: The ruling All Progressives Congress has warned that no alliance of the opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra Governor Peter Obi, will be potent enough to stop President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
The National Publicity Director of APC, Bala Ibrahim, gave the warning in an interview on Tuesday, December 10.
2. Reps order FCT police to stop harassment of motorists over tinted glass: The House of Representatives has directed the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command to immediately cease the harassment of motorists and release vehicles impounded solely for violations related to tinted glasses or covered number plates, provided there are no other offences.
These resolutions followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance, titled “Addressing the Enforcement of Ban on Tinted Glasses and Covered Number Plates in the FCT,” presented by Rep. Tolani Shagaya, who represents Asa/Ilorin West federal constituency of Kwara State, during plenary on December 10.
3. U.S. Embassy issues new directive for Nigerian visa applicants: The United States Embassy in Nigeria has reviewed its immigration visa processes for immigrants starting January 1, 2025.
According to the embassy, applicants with interviews will now visit the Consulate General in Lagos at least twice during the process. The directive was announced on its official X page on December 10.
4. Farotimi: Police allege witnesses intimidation, oppose bail application: On December 10, an Ekiti State Magistrates’ Court in Ado Ekiti sent lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi back to prison after the police vehemently opposed his bail application, accusing him of intimidating witnesses.
The magistrate adjourned till December 20 to rule on whether or not to admit Farotimi to bail following the stiff opposition by the police.
5. FG arrests 10 INTERPOL wanted suspects in one week: The Federal Government has said it apprehended at least 10 persons on INTERPOL’s watch list while entering Nigeria.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, revealed this to President Bola Tinubu at the unveiling of the Technology Innovation Complex at the Nigeria Immigration Service headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, December 10.
