World leaders swiftly extended their congratulations to Republican Donald Trump after he claimed victory over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in the US presidential election, marking a remarkable political comeback four years after leaving the White House.
Among the first to congratulate Trump on Wednesday, November 6, was Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who expressed his hopes for continued economic cooperation between the United States and Nigeria.
Other global leaders, including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, also extended their congratulations to Donald Trump.

Nigeria’s Bola Tinubu congratulates Donald Trump
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu congratulated Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for the 2024 US election.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said, “Together, we can foster economic cooperation, promote peace, and address global challenges that affect our citizens.
“According to President Tinubu, Trump’s victory reflects the trust and confidence the American people have placed in his leadership. He congratulates them on their commitment to democracy.
“President Tinubu believes that, given President Trump’s experience as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021, his return to the White House as the 47th president will usher in an era of earnest, beneficial, and reciprocal economic and development partnerships between Africa and the United States.”
British PM Keir Starmer congratulates Trump
"Congratulations President-elect Trump on your historic election victory. I look forward to working with you in the years ahead. As the closest of allies, we stand shoulder to shoulder in defence of our shared values of freedom, democracy and enterprise,” Starmer stated.
Italy PM Giorgia Meloni hails Trump
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Meloni extended her "most sincere congratulations" to Trump, emphasising that Italy and the United States share an "unshakeable alliance," a "strategic bond" she is confident will be further strengthened.
Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu congratulates Trump
Netanyahu said, "Dear Donald and Melania Trump, Congratulations on history’s greatest comeback! Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America. This is a huge victory! In true friendship, yours, Benjamin and Sara Netanyahu.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hopeful of Trump’s support
He said, “ I recall our great meeting with President Trump back in September when we discussed in detail the Ukraine-U.S. strategic partnership, the Victory Plan, and ways to put an end to Russian aggression against Ukraine.”
“We look forward to an era of a strong United States of America under President Trump’s decisive leadership. We rely on continued strong bipartisan support for Ukraine in the United States,” Zelenskyy added.
