The Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu is dissatisfied with the previous distribution of palliatives aimed at alleviating hardship in Nigeria.

According to him, this discontent led to the President’s decision to reconstitute a new committee to oversee a more equitable distribution of the aid.

Senator Barau made the announcement on Sunday, September 8, during the flag-off ceremony for the Federal Government’s palliative distribution in the North West Geo-political zone, held in Kano

He emphasised that the President's dissatisfaction with the earlier distribution process was the impetus for forming a new committee dedicated to ensuring that aid reaches those in genuine need.

“The President has done well by providing palliatives, but the distribution was not fair. That is why the President reconstituted this distribution committee. We are committed to distributing the palliatives in an equitable manner, down to the grassroots level,” Senator Barau stated.

The Deputy Senate President urged Nigerians to support President Tinubu's efforts to address the country's economic challenges rather than engaging in blame games.

He stated that the President's ongoing work to implement policies designed to revamp the economy and provide relief to the populace.

The newly reconstituted distribution committee, which includes members from various political parties, security agencies, and local organizations, will be led by Senator Barau Jibrin. This committee aims to ensure a transparent and effective distribution process to better serve the needs of the Nigerian people.

In a related development, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Abubakar Kyari revealed that the Federal Government had previously dispatched 90 trucks of foodstuffs to Kano State, with an additional 20 trucks, though the distribution was reportedly mishandled.

For the current round of distribution, a total of 19.3 trucks, amounting to 23,644 bags of 25kg rice, have been allocated to Kano. Kyari also announced that Kano State will soon receive 70 trucks of 50kg of subsidised rice from the federal government.

Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mariya Bunkure, emphasised that the palliative distribution is part of President Tinubu’s initiative to ease the hardships faced by Nigerians. She assured that the aid would be distributed fairly, involving traditional leaders to ensure impartiality.

Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, Chairman of the House of Representatives Special Committee on Oil Theft/Losses, described the initiative as timely and crucial for alleviating the hardships faced by the people. He also assured President Tinubu of the support from the people of Kano State for the 2027 elections.

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that in a bid to address food insecurity and provide relief amid economic challenges, the federal government has donated 20 trucks of rice to each of Nigeria's 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This announcement, made by the Minister of Information in Abuja on Monday, has quickly become a topic of widespread discussion and debate among Nigerians.
