  • The veteran actress slammed President Tinubu’s decision to make the declaration
  • She further accused the president of having ulterior motives following his actions

Veteran Nollywood actress and chairman of the Labour Party in Rivers State Hilda Dokubo has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his recent declaration of state of emergency in Rivers State.

On March 18, 2025, President Tinubu announced a six-month suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Their suspension was reportedly based on escalating political unrest and a breakdown of governance as the primary reasons for the unprecedented action.

Expressing her outrage on the development, Dokubo accused Tinubu of ulterior motives in the state which she expressed as “combat for the economic soul of Rivers State.”

In a recent video on Wednesday, March 19, Dokubo was captured airing her voice on the issue as she criticised the President’s decision.

What Hilda Dokubo said about Rivers’ state of emergency

Now, you have crippled people because of one man? And for what? I will say it over again. What's going on in Rivers State is not Siminalayi Fubara; what's going on in Rivers State is a combat for the economic soul of Rivers State. For 24 years, they kept milking us.
That is how our money was flying all over our heads. It is here today, it is there tomorrow. This is the first time that civil servants have been paid all their salaries.
For the first time, there are roads connecting all the riverine communities, it has never happened. They lied to us. They told us that our terrain was too bad. Now, we know our terrain is not bad.
You told him to write a budget. He wrote and you made it impossible for him. He wrote that I am coming to you and you locked him out. He wrote again to say I will still come to you. You wrote to him as a reply for insubordination and then, the next thing you do this,” Dokubo said in the video.

Meanwhile, the actress had shared her outage on her official page on Instagram, particularly drawing a comparison with George Orwell’s Animal Farm.
