A former senator who represented Sokoto East Senatorial District, Abubakar Umar Gada, has reassured members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the party remains stable and influential in Sokoto State despite recent political defections.

In a press statement released on Thursday, March 12, in Sokoto, the former senator called on party members and supporters to stay calm and remain committed to the party’s principles, noting that the party’s political structure and electoral strength in the state remain solid.

Gada explained that defections are not unusual in Nigeria’s political environment and should not be seen as a threat to the PDP’s strong grassroots base in Sokoto.

According to him, the PDP continues to stand as one of the most structured and people-focused political parties in the country, maintaining active networks across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

He added that the resilience of the party is built on the loyalty and dedication of its leaders, members and supporters who have stood by the party through different political phases.

The former lawmaker also stressed that individuals are free to make political choices but maintained that such decisions would not undermine the party’s institutional strength or its connection with the people.

He said the party leadership at the national level had already begun efforts to reinforce unity and strengthen internal structures across the country.

Gada disclosed that consultations and reconciliation meetings were currently taking place among party stakeholders to resolve concerns and deepen unity within the PDP.

“These consultations are designed to ensure that the PDP moves forward with renewed focus, stronger unity and a clear commitment to democratic values,” he said.

Reflecting on the party’s political history, the former senator noted that the PDP had overcome numerous challenges in the past and had always emerged stronger.

He therefore urged party members in Sokoto to remain focused and avoid actions capable of creating divisions, while encouraging supporters to intensify grassroots mobilisation and strengthen the party’s structures at all levels.

Gada reaffirmed his personal loyalty to the PDP and called on party faithful to remain steadfast as the party prepares for future electoral contests.
