Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially approved the appointment of Prince Akeem Abimbola Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo. This marked a historic milestone for both the Oyo Kingdom and the Owoade royal family.

Prince Akeem Owoade, who hails from the Owoade family in Oyo town, Oyo State, is one of the surviving children of Pa Rasaki Ibiyosi Owoade, a direct descendant of Aremo Aderounmu Iyanda Owoade from the Agure Compound.

He is a Nigerian-Canadian entrepreneur, philanthropist, and expert in project management.

10 things to know about the new Alaafin of Oyo

1. Prince Owoade was born in 1978 to the royal Owoade-Agunloye family in Oyo.

2. He completed his secondary education at Baptist High School in Saki, Oyo State, graduating in 1992.

3. He pursued studies in mechanical engineering, completing his National Diploma and Higher National Diploma at the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, and the Polytechnic, Ibadan, between 1994 and 2001.

4. He completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program in 2002 at Nigeria Gas Company as a Mechanical Intern/Planner.

5. After his NYSC, he worked briefly as a teller at Oceanic Bank International Plc in Warri between 2003 and 2004.

6. Prince Owoade furthered his education in the United Kingdom, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Sunderland in 2008.

7. He also earned a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northumbria University in 2012. In June 2015, he became certified in Project Management.

8. He held the position of Planning Engineer at Oil Reach Company in Glasgow, UK, before relocating to Canada for new opportunities.

9. He is currently a Project Coordinator at Manitoba Hydro, one of Canada's largest electric power and natural gas utility companies.

10. Prince Owoade is a successful entrepreneur and the president of 100279 Manitoba Limited, a real estate and financial services firm based in Manitoba, Canada. 

It is Oke-Ogun’s turn to produce Oyo's next governor – Ex-minister Shittu

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that the former Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu said the Oke-Ogun region in Oyo State was determined to produce the next governor of the state in the 2027 elections. 

Shittu criticised Ibadan’s dominance in Oyo State politics and called for a more inclusive political process.
