His 42nd year message further highlighted the accomplishments of his team and volunteer groups. He vowed to maintain his support for orphanages throughout the state.

Controversy surrounds Adeoye’s family choices

However, the post quickly became the subject of online criticism. The backlash focused primarily on his family, with some questioning why he had not given his children Yoruba names.

Other comments criticised his aspirations for political office, with some stating that non-Yoruba first ladies would not be accepted in the region.

An X user questioned, “Why should a sensible Yoruba man allow his Ibo wife to name all his children Ibo first name, not the middle or other name? Never again? " This question sparked a mix of opinions.

Nigerians react to Adeoye’s message, vision for Oyo

TheRadar compiled some of the other public reactions below:

“If your children can bear Igbo names because your wife is Igbo, probably she’ll be the one directing the affairs of Oyo State if by peradventure you’re elected. Another Chinedu Roads 5-4 in the making!” Omo Akin reacted.

“Sir don’t waste your money to campaign if our first lady in oyo won’t come from Oyo or any part of Yoruba land. Nyamiri will never be our first lady ever again, we learnt from betty anyawu the wife of the late gov akeredolu who shits on our culture and our people. You will never rule oyo state!!!” Adex Smith reacted.

“Do you marry Igbo woman if do so let us know and is your right to do so but out culture is very important to us,” Sodeke stated.

“Do not listen to those discouraging you here. They are inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. Elections are not won on Twitter. So far you're Yoruba and you get your politicking right, you will be fine. Most of them here are miserable and bitter and PVCless,” Rewind Reels stated.

“As much as I support the Oke Ogun governorship agenda, I don't see you as the right candidate cos with you, it seems ur Igbo wife will be at the driving seat in Oyo state and Ondo state people can confirm that such will end in premium tears for the people,” Monsieur Radical reacted.

“How low have some of us gone that we no longer consider competence but settle for extremely petty things like the tribe of one's spouse even when we know nothing about the character of such person. There are good and bad people in every tribe. Competency, not tribe!” Bros Femi Lee stated.

“Adura mi ni pe, ki ofi iku sé ifa je ni odun 2025. I hate men like you. Yoruba is only good for you when you wanna rock our attires and when you need power. Ko ni ra igba fun e. You will never become the gov of my state. Squad dey ground to frustrate you. Oponu Ayerada Okunrin,” Abiola added.

“Wèrè, U better keep ur money 4 another thing. Note; U can't take leadership position in Yorùbáland. No room for Inyamiri Firstlady in our space again. Note; Only if u can kpai Ananya, anayo & ifeoma d retired oloso Inyamiri wey u go marry.. then we go giv u 2nd chance I swear👌,” Ayodeji reacted.

“Egbon no waste that change wey dey your hand ooo because of you waste and money no dey like before again mama Anaya go leave you waka ooo,we dey borrow you sense now ooo becos if you bring money out we go tell our people to collect am and still do justice to your candidature,” Olatechtodworld reacted.
