- Sunday Akere said Osun State was working towards delivering one million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections
- Renewed Hope Local Government Ambassadors were inaugurated to drive grassroots mobilisation and voter education across the state
- The ambassadors were tasked with securing victory for the APC in the 2026 governorship election and strengthening support for Tinubu’s agenda
A former Osun State Commissioner for Information, Sunday Akere, has said the state is working towards delivering about one million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Akere, who currently serves as the Osun State Ambassador of Renewed Hope — President Tinubu’s policy framework for national transformation — made the declaration on Tuesday in Osogbo during the inauguration of Local Government Ambassadors for the initiative.
The event was attended by key political stakeholders, including the South West Zonal Ambassador for Renewed Hope, Senator Dayo Adeyeye; the Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor, Mr Tayo Ayinde; and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji.
Speaking at the gathering, Akere said the target was realistic, noting that Osun State has close to two million registered voters. He lamented the traditionally low voter turnout during elections in the state, stressing the need for aggressive grassroots mobilisation.
“We are not looking at anything less than one million votes for the President here in Osun. We have almost two million registered voters in the state, and it is very sad that during elections, we usually record fewer than 500,000 voters,” Akere said.
He explained that the Local Government Ambassadors were being inaugurated to drive grassroots mobilisation, voter education and community engagement across the state. According to him, their task is to ensure increased political participation and support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“That is why we want them to go to the grassroots, mobilise the people, carry out outreach and engage the electorate so that the President will secure a minimum of one million votes in Osun,” he added.
Akere further stated that the ambassadors’ immediate mandate is to ensure victory for the APC governorship candidate in the 2026 Osun State governorship election. “Their first mandate is that by August 8, 2026, they must deliver our governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO),” he said.
Outlining other responsibilities of the Renewed Hope Local Government Ambassadors, Akere said they are expected to lead political mobilisation efforts, sensitise residents on the achievements of the Tinubu administration and strengthen the party’s presence at the grassroots.
“They must sensitise the party and the general public, whether members or not, on the achievements of President Tinubu’s administration,” he said.
Addressing the gathering, APC governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji charged the ambassadors to work diligently to secure victory for the party in both the 2026 governorship election and the 2027 presidential poll. He also urged residents to participate actively in the ongoing voter registration exercise and called on party members to take part in the APC membership registration.
Also speaking, the South West Ambassador of Renewed Hope, Senator Dayo Adeyeye, called for total commitment from the Osun LG Ambassadors. He emphasised the need for APC members to continue educating the public on various federal government initiatives aimed at improving the living standards of Nigerians.
It will be recalled that President Tinubu, on November 25, 2025, appointed Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as a Renewed Hope Ambassador. In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, Uzodimma was also named Director-General for party outreach, engagement and mobilisation, positioning him as the chief promoter of the Tinubu administration’s agenda nationwide.
