- Princewill Dike urged Tinubu to appoint Nyesom Wike as 2027 campaign Director-General
- He praised Wike’s political network and track record of delivering election victories
- He said Wike’s leadership would give the APC a strong advantage in the elections
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Princewill Dike, has called on President Bola Tinubu to appoint the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as Director-General of his Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dike made the appeal while speaking with journalists in Port Harcourt on Monday, expressing strong confidence in Wike’s political capabilities and track record. According to him, the former Rivers State governor possesses the experience and strategic acumen required to lead a successful re-election campaign.
Describing Wike as a “political force”, Dike argued that his appointment would significantly strengthen Tinubu’s chances in 2027. He maintained that Wike has consistently demonstrated an ability to outmanoeuvre political opponents and deliver electoral victories, even in challenging circumstances.
“He has a humongous political network across the wider spectrum of the federation,” Dike said, adding that Wike’s influence cuts across party lines and demographics. He also praised the minister’s ability to mobilise resources for campaigns, claiming that Wike could generate funding independently without placing pressure on the presidency.
The APC chieftain further asserted that Wike’s leadership style and commitment to achieving results would give the ruling party a competitive edge. “He will work tirelessly, moving across the country to secure victory,” he said, noting that Wike’s reputation as a “goal-getter” sets him apart from other political figures.
Dike pointed to Wike’s political history in Rivers State, including his role in past elections, as evidence of his effectiveness. He highlighted the 2023 general elections, where Wike, then governor under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was credited with delivering key electoral wins, including support for Tinubu despite party differences.
The lawyer also referenced remarks by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Odein Ajumogobia, who had previously acknowledged Wike’s deep understanding of politics, describing him as a formidable strategist.
Dike concluded by urging Tinubu to consider what he described as a strategic appointment, insisting that selecting Wike as PCC Director-General would pose a significant challenge to opposition candidates in the next election cycle.
As political activities gradually intensify ahead of 2027, such endorsements highlight ongoing efforts within the APC and beyond to position key figures for the forthcoming electoral contest.
