Four South African men are reportedly responsible for the fatal assault of a Nigerian man, Julius Chukwunta, 37, who was attacked on December 7, 2024, as he drove to his residence in Midrand’s Protea Estate.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, December 21, Frank Onyekwelu, the president-general of the Nigerian Citizens Association in South Africa (NICASA), described the incident and confirmed the victim's tragic death.

“At that moment, the four men allegedly attacked him, leaving him severely injured with a head wound,” Onyekwelu stated.

Onyekwelu disclosed that the suspects, aged between 20 and 28, allegedly inflicted severe injuries on Chukwunta, leading to his death.

The NICASA president-general, Onyekwelu, shared that Chukwunta, from Aninri LGA in Enugu State, was confronted by the four men as he neared his home.

After trying to pass, he encountered opposition. He also attempted to get help from the security office but was reportedly denied assistance.

Speaking further, Onyekwelu said, “His female companion, who was sitting in the car, rushed to the security office and discovered him bleeding on the ground.

“In spite of attempts to call for help, the security office and residents did not assist in calling the police or an ambulance.

“After an hour, Chukwunta’s partner contacted her father, who, along with other family members, took him to Tembisa General Hospital.

“Chukwunta was placed on life support but later succumbed to his injuries and died at the Tembisa General Hospital on December 10, 2024.”

The incident has sparked outrage within the Nigerian community in South Africa, with calls for justice for the victim.
