Former Senate President and Senator representing Yobe North, Ahmad Lawan, has urged Nigerians to pray for the country and rally behind the administration of Bola Tinubu as Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr.

In a message posted on his verified Facebook page on Thursday, Lawan congratulated the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and across the globe on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan. He expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for granting the faithful the strength, life, and spiritual resolve to observe the 30-day fast.

“As the blessed month of Ramadan gracefully comes to an end, our hearts are filled with gratitude to Almighty Allah for granting us the life, strength, and faith to witness its completion,” he said.

Describing Eid-el-Fitr as a moment of spiritual fulfilment and reflection, Lawan noted that Ramadan serves as a period of intense devotion marked by discipline, compassion, and heightened consciousness of God. He emphasised that the benefits of the fasting period extend beyond abstinence from food and drink, urging Muslims to sustain the virtues cultivated during the sacred month.

“It is the day we reap the harvest of our patience, our charity, and our devotion. For thirty days, we engaged in an exercise of self-discipline and God-consciousness,” he added.

The lawmaker stressed that the true measure of Ramadan lies in how well its lessons are preserved in everyday life. According to him, values such as patience, honesty, and empathy should guide both personal conduct and national development efforts.

Lawan also acknowledged Christians observing Lent, describing the overlap of the two religious seasons as a powerful symbol of shared values and collective responsibility. He noted that both periods highlight sacrifice, compassion, and care for the vulnerable in society.

“This beautiful confluence of our sacred seasons is a divine reminder of our shared values. It underscores our common call to sacrifice and our collective duty to show compassion to the vulnerable,” he said.

Addressing the state of the nation, Lawan admitted that Nigeria faces considerable challenges but expressed optimism that unity and resilience would see the country through. He called on public office holders to prioritise service above personal gain, urging them to lead with empathy and accountability.

He further encouraged Nigerian youths to remain law-abiding and committed to constructive engagement, noting that their energy is vital to national transformation.

In his closing remarks, Lawan appealed to citizens to reject divisive tendencies and instead promote peace, unity, and mutual respect. He offered prayers for continued blessings, expressing hope that the spirit of Ramadan and Lent would strengthen national cohesion and inspire progress across the country.
