Covenant University, a private Christian institution in Ota, Ogun State, has been ranked the best university in West Africa and the third best in Africa in the Times Higher Education (THE) 2025 Interdisciplinary Science Research (ISR) rankings.

The announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun Adebayo, on Friday, November 22. According to Professor Adebayo, the ISR ranking evaluates universities’ contributions to interdisciplinary science, which involves integrating knowledge, traditions, and processes from multiple scientific disciplines.

“Interdisciplinary science refers to the integration of knowledge, traditions, and processes from multiple scientific disciplines. It can involve multiple academics collaborating across different fields or a single academic addressing a scientific question from various perspectives,” he explained.

The ISR rankings assessed institutions through three key pillars representing the stages of a research project’s lifecycle: inputs, processes, and outputs.

“The ISR methodology consists of three pillars – Input (19%), Process (16%), and Output (65%). These pillars are further divided into 11 metrics measuring different aspects of each stage,” Professor Adebayo added.

Professor Adebayo attributed this achievement to the institution’s visionary leadership and divine intervention. “This is indeed a validation of our visionary base as a university. It is the hand of God at work in Covenant University, and we give God all the glory!” he remarked.

He also commended the Chancellor and Chairman of the Board of Regents, Dr David Oyedepo, for his exceptional leadership and unwavering support, which he said have driven significant transformation at the university.

“Our accomplishments over the years have not been by power or might but by the faithfulness of God. Covenant University is God’s own institution, with a unique mandate to raise a new generation of leaders in all spheres of human endeavour. This accounts for the extraordinary achievements recorded within such a short time,” the vice-chancellor added.
