Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Kano North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The affirmation exercise was held at the APC headquarters in Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State, with thousands of party members from the 13 local government areas within the senatorial district participating in the event.
According to a statement issued by Barau’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, the exercise was attended by officials from the APC national headquarters as well as representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Elections Committee for Kano State, Hon. Musa Yahaya, supervised the process and formally sought the endorsement of party members, who unanimously affirmed Senator Barau as the party’s candidate for the National Assembly election scheduled for January 16, 2027.
Speaking after the exercise, the leader of the INEC monitoring team, Abdulrahman Haruna, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the primary, describing the process as peaceful and orderly.
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, also commended the peaceful atmosphere surrounding the exercise.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo, the governor expressed confidence that the APC would secure victory in Kano North during the 2027 elections.
“We are happy. Kano North is for APC at all times. We are one family in APC,” he said.
He further declared that the district would strongly support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Barau and other APC candidates during the polls.
“Insha Allah, before noon on election day, Senator Barau will secure his seat, while President Tinubu and all our candidates will emerge victorious,” he added.
Responding after his affirmation, Senator Barau thanked party members for their overwhelming support and confidence in his leadership.
He also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his leadership of both the APC and the country.
“Let me begin by thanking Almighty Allah for making my nomination possible. I also wish to appreciate the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his leadership of the APC and the nation at large,” Barau said.
“He is doing extremely well, and we cannot thank him enough,” he added.
The emergence of Barau as the APC candidate further strengthens his political standing within Kano State and the ruling party as preparations continue for the 2027 general elections.
Political observers believe his endorsement reflects his influence within the APC and the party’s determination to maintain its dominance in Kano North Senatorial District.
