Former Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, has pledged to provide quality representation for the people of Delta North Senatorial District if elected in the 2027 general elections.

Okowa made the promise shortly after emerging victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election, where he defeated the incumbent senator, Ned Nwoko.

Speaking after the primary election, the former governor thanked supporters and party members for their confidence in him and assured constituents that he would remain committed to serving the interests of the district.

“I thank my people for the love they have showered upon me, and I pray that the Lord God will continue to energise me to do the best I can for the whole of Delta North,” Okowa said.

He further promised to maintain close contact with the people if elected to the Senate, stressing that public office holders must remain accessible to those they represent.

“I have one promise: that I will serve the people with all my heart,” he stated.

Okowa also emphasised the importance of regular interaction between elected representatives and their constituents, noting that senators should not distance themselves from the communities that elected them.

“I expect to return home as regularly as possible to greet our people. You cannot be a senator and stay away from your people because they sent you to represent them,” he added.

The former governor assured residents that he would remain available whenever needed and pledged to uphold the interests of the district at the National Assembly.

“I shall be a good representative of the good people of Delta North. Whenever my presence is needed, they will surely find me,” he said.

Okowa’s victory over Ned Nwoko in the APC primary has generated significant political discussion in Delta State, given the influence and visibility of both politicians within the state’s political landscape.

Political observers believe the outcome could reshape political alignments in Delta North ahead of the 2027 elections, especially as parties continue preparations for the nationwide polls.

The former governor, who previously served as vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, remains one of the most prominent political figures in Delta State and the South-South region.

His emergence as the APC senatorial candidate is expected to intensify political competition within the district as the general elections draw closer.
