Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed on Wednesday held a closed-door meeting with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, and Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf at the Government House in Bauchi.

According to reports, the meeting was conducted privately, with state party executives excluded and journalists barred from covering the proceedings. The discussion, which lasted several hours, took place entirely behind closed doors, fuelling speculation about its purpose and possible political implications.

Attempts by reporters to obtain official comments from the participants were unsuccessful, as both Governor Mohammed and Yilwatda declined to speak, describing the engagement as strictly private.

The meeting comes just 24 hours after Mohammed signalled interest in joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a move that has generated considerable political attention. His remarks followed a recent visit to Bauchi by a delegation of the party led by Babachir Lawal.

The timing of the closed-door talks has raised questions among political observers, particularly given the involvement of key figures from different political alignments. While Mohammed is a prominent member of the opposition, the presence of the APC national chairman and the Kano State governor has sparked speculation about possible realignments or strategic consultations ahead of future elections.

Analysts note that such high-level, undisclosed meetings often signal ongoing negotiations or efforts to manage political tensions. However, in the absence of official statements, the exact agenda and outcomes remain unclear.

The development underscores the fluid nature of Nigeria’s political landscape, where alliances and affiliations continue to evolve as parties and politicians position themselves ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Observers are expected to monitor subsequent developments closely, particularly any indication of party defections or new political coalitions.
