The All Progressives Congress in Lagos State has re-elected Cornelius Ojelabi as its state chairman for another term following a consensus arrangement at the party’s state congress.
The congress, held on Tuesday, March 3, at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, saw delegates from all 376 wards across Lagos affirm the consensus list presented by the Chairman of the State Congress Committee, Stella Okotete, through a voice vote. Ojelabi, who has led the party’s state chapter since 2021, secured a fresh mandate alongside other executive members.
The newly elected executives include Moshood Olanrewaju as Deputy Chairman; Adeola Jokomba as Secretary; Azizat Mariam as Assistant Secretary; Seye Oladejo as Publicity Secretary; Babajide Sunday as Vice Chairman; Shola Eletu as Woman Leader; and Ayodele Adewale as Organising Secretary.
The event attracted prominent party stakeholders, including Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy Obafemi Hamzat, and Speaker of the State House of Assembly Mudasiru Obasa.
Also in attendance were Leader of the Governor’s Advisory Council Tajudeen Olusi, Secretary to the State Government Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, former Lagos governor Akinwunmi Ambode, governorship aspirant Olajide Adediran, and former senator Ganiyu Solomon, among other dignitaries.
In his acceptance speech, Ojelabi highlighted the party’s achievements and vision moving forward:
“As I reflect on the journey of the past four years, I am filled with pride in all we have accomplished together, from strengthening our party structure to securing victories at IPUs.”
He further stated:
“We have demonstrated that the APC is not just a party, but a movement—a movement for progress.”
Ojelabi described the upcoming political cycle as an opportunity to deepen unity and grassroots engagement:
“The future of Lagos State and Nigeria depends on our dedication and our ability to work together. Let us strengthen our bonds, reach out to every community, and ensure that no voice is left unheard and no hand is left idle in this mission.”
Addressing youth and women inclusion, he noted the party’s progress:
“We have 376 councillors, all of them within the age bracket. And today, you can see another practicalisation of our intention to strengthen and make sure that women vote. And that is why we have elected a youngest assistant woman leader for the state. She is one of you. She is here to represent you. She is here to govern you.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the party’s unity and organisational strength:
“In the entire country, we have demonstrated that the party is supreme. We have shown to everybody that for us in Lagos, we are invited and we are strengthened by the unity of purpose.”
He also acknowledged the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, stating that the party remains open to participation while maintaining its core objectives and governance ideals.
