Adeboye, and his wife have been reportedly involved in an alleged fraud case
- Adeolu and his wife had allegedly received N8 billion for a road construction project but only completed 30 per cent of the project
- Nigerians criticise Adeolu, his father and the church for being associated with corruption after Adeboye had claimed that the problems of Nigeria require a spiritual solution
The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has been trending for the wrong reasons on social media. The popular church has recently been in the black books of many Nigerians after a couple of events involving pastors of the church including the General Overseer.
According to reports, Adeolu Adeboye, the son of the general overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, and his wife are under scrutiny for alleged misappropriation of funds and abandoning a construction project in Kaduna State.
The report alleged that Adeolu Adeboye and his wife had received over N8 billion from the Kaduna State Government for a road construction project which they abandoned after only 30 per cent completion.
The couple had secured the contract through Ronchess Global Resources Plc. during former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s tenure. The project was awarded on September 15, 2020, and was expected to be completed by January 2, 2021.
The Kaduna State Government and the House of Assembly initiated an investigation into the case but Adeolu filed a lawsuit seeking to prevent the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Kaduna State Government and the House of Assembly from arresting or detaining him.
The EFCC, however, said they found evidence of fraud and criminal diversion of public funds against Adeolu Adeboye and 26 other contractors.
Although the case is still in court, Nigerians are not taking it lightly with the church as they have been speculating that the RCCG is the “spiritual wing” of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Many Nigerians have expressed their anger at the church and especially at the general overseer who recently said the problems of the country are spiritual and not political. Some Nigerians have also said people like Adeolu Adeboye are part of the spiritual problems of the country that the citizens should pray against.
Netizens drag Adeboye, son over fraud case
Many netizens have expressed their anger at the church for being involved in the alleged fraud. Some people have thrown insults at Adeolu and his father saying they feel betrayed by the cleric. Others believe that they have been benefiting from the government and that is why they haven’t spoken against bad governance.

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, shared his opinion on women and the use of makeup during the RCCG ministers' conference at Redemption City, Mowe, Ogun State, on Saturday, August 10.
Pastor Adeboye said women who use makeup are implying that God's creation of them was not flawless.
