  •  Cobhams Asuquo has reacted to the viral video of the Edo State governor stuttering to pronounce budget figures
  • The singer questioned why brilliant people seldom make it to positions of government
  • The said video is, however, claimed to be doctored by Reno Omokri

Nigerian singer Cobhams Asuquo has reacted to the viral video of Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, who was struggling to pronounce the N605 billion figure for the state’s 2025 budget.

Cobhams wondered why despite the level of brilliance in Nigeria, the country, is still led by people who are the best of the lot.

In an X (formerly Twitter) post on December 10, Cobhams expressed his thoughts with a thread that criticised the quality of governance in the state.

To be clear, some of the most brilliant Nigerian minds I have encountered are from Edo State. So this begs the question, is it that we're not ready to tell ourselves the truth, or that we don't want progress as much as we claim to?

“Some choices may be foisted on us but is that to remain our lot? What does governance mean to us; all of us - the governed and the governor? I'm really confused this hot afternoon. This is bad. Very, very bad. There's got to be a way out,” Cobhams wrote.

Edo State Governor’s trending video

Prior to Cobhams' reaction, a viral clip surfaced on social media, which captured Governor Okpebholo unveiling the 2025 Appropriation Bill for the state.

In the video, the governor was found stuttering to pronounce the figures N605 billion before indicating how confusing it was for him.

The Edo State 2025…appropriation bill of six billion (sic)… six hundred and fif…(sic) six hundred and five billion, seventy six thou… seventy-six million,

seventy-six… Let me take it again,

Five hundred and six billion… six hundred and five billion, sorry… seven hundred, seventy-six billion (hisses)… sorry, it is confusing me,” Okpebholo said during his presentation at the House of Assembly

Okay, six, sorry, six… six hundred and five billion… and details of the budget propose… proposal for your consideration and approval,” he added.

Reno Omokri’s doctored video claims

Meanwhile, as Okpebholo’s viral video generated mixed reactions from Nigerians, popular politician Reno Omokri has claimed that the video was doctored.

According to Reno, the original video, which he shared, showed the fluency of the Edo State Governor during his 2025 budget presentation.

Meanwhile, Here's The Original Video of The Edo State Governor Before It Was Doctored,” he posted.

However, some netizens who claimed to have watched the supposed ‘doctored’ video accused Reno of deception.

According to one netizen, identified as Vincent Alu, he had watched Okpebholo’s presentation live on Nigeria Television Authority (NTA).

Another one, identified as Victor, questioned Reno’s integrity and claimed that the politician had posted the actual doctored one to deceive them.

US Elections: Nigerian rapper Vector reacts to Africans showing solidarity

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that popular Nigerian rapper Olarenwaju Ogunmefun, better known as Vector, reacted to the just-concluded United States presidential elections, in which Donald Trump emerged as the winner.

Vector berated Nigerians and Africans who show support for global electoral processes and highlighted the impact of such elections.
