After a refreshing year-long hiatus, the esteemed music award platform, The Headies, is poised to launch its highly anticipated 17th and 18th editions in 2025.
This iconic event promises to celebrate and honor the outstanding talents and remarkable achievements in the Nigerian music industry, fostering a vibrant atmosphere of creativity and recognition.
During the Big Announcement event, on Tuesday, January 28, the Executive Producer of the prestigious award, Ayo Animashaun, explained when the 2024 and 2025 awards ceremonies will be held.
Captured in an Instagram video posted on The Headies official page, Animashaun reiterated that the award ceremony is a yearly event and they won't miss it.
“The award that is happening in April 2025 was meant to happen last year. For reasons, it didn't happen last year (2024). We do not want to miss a calendar year. The Headies is a calendar event and we do not want to miss it.
The artistes are waiting to be rewarded for their music material in the year under review. We do not want to miss that. So, the next one will be happening in December.” Animashaun explained.

5 things to expect from the upcoming Headies Awards
- The 2025 edition of the Headies Award will be coming back to Nigeria after years of being hosted in the United States of America.
- The nominees list for the 2025 Headies Award will be officially announced on February 12, 2025.
- Considering the break in 2024, there will be two editions of the award this year. The 17th edition for 2024 is scheduled for April, 5, 2025. On the other hand, the 18th edition will take place in December 2025 to celebrate music from 2025.
- The upcoming two editions of The Headies Awards is an historic move that has never happened since its inception in 2006.
- The nomination window for the 17th edition will run from April 1, 2023, to July 31, 2024, while the 18th edition will cover August 2024, and a larger part of 2025.
