- Nigerian singer Wizkid has revealed why he turned down endorsement deal from Puma
- Wizkid bragged that Puma couldn't afford him suggesting that’s why they opted for Davido
- In a series of tweets, Wizkid jabbed at Davido as he continued his fiery exchange on social media
Nigerian singer and songwriter Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, is not backing down on his social media exchange with Davido.
The lingering beef between Wizkid and Davido resumed on October 1 after Davido previewed his first 2024 single on the same date as Wizkid’s Piece of My Heart supposed release date.
Responding to a tweet by the CEO of ChatterUS and Davido’s business partner, Nelson Epega, on Wednesday, October 2, Wizkid revealed why he left his Puma deal.
“U idiot! I turned down Puma because they could no longer afford to pay me cos I wanted more! Don’t need that! Way bigger than every artiste you just mentioned! Not jealous! love em all…With your dirty ass shirt! Idiot!”
Wizkid also noted that the budget Puma had for African artistes was not his worth, suggesting that it was worth Davido, which is why he took it.
“No ! Puma is Big brand! But the budget they had for Africa wasn’t for me! Was cool for your client tho!”
Puma is a German multinational corporation who design and manufacture athletic and casual footwear, apparel and accessories. It is widely considered to be the third-largest sportswear manufacturer in the world.
What Nelson Epega said to Wizkid
Prior to Wizkid’s revelation about Puma and how they couldn't afford him, his response was triggered by a video of Nelson Epega.
In the videos posted on his X(formerly Twitter) official page, Nelson alleged that Wizkid has not had a hit song in four years.
He also went on to say that Wizkid had no influence as Ayra Starr, Tems and Rema in recent times, advising him to go make good music rather than causing a stir on Twitter.
“Bro, Puma is worth $6.1 billion. It is not that they couldn't afford to pay you. They wanted to pay you less because you're less of a relevant artiste than Davido.
You have not had a hit in four years.
Tweeting at David and talking all this nonsense about Davido, who is at Puma in New York city unveiling his new collection. An artiste of what calibre? You're a junior brother to Ayra Starr, Tems and Rema. Like bro, calm down, get the hell out of Twitter and go make some freaking music.” Nelson said.
