Tolani Tayo Osikoya, a popular Nigerian food blogger popularly known as Diaryofakitchenlover, has shared an account of her family's encounter with armed robbers in 2003, and how her parents played the superhero role.
According to Osikoya, who shared the story on her Instagram page, the incident occurred when she was just 13 years old. Armed robbers stormed her family's home in Lagos Mainland, holding them hostage and demanding valuables.
“I was 13, my big brother was 14. Our home housed us 4 kids, my parents, an uncle and aunt. It was a cold night in Lagos Mainland. Nepa took the light and only our flat had the Gen on. Dad was on the dinning table with my big brother and I teaching us our maths assignment when we heard a strange voice as masked men walked into our flat. Everybody LIE DOWN!” she wrote.
She added how they requested for the father, and the gang leader's stern warning against shooting anyone. She added that they were furious after realising they had no money.
“They were so furious that they began to beat my dad. Seeing that they couldn't get anything from him, it was my mum's turn.
“They led my dad to a big "window" covered with curtains and asked him to face it while they took my mum to the room. My mum kept shouting "blood of Jesus"! I don't have anything!, my Jewelries are fake! Unknown to them, that big window was a sliding glass door.”
Osikoya's father, in a daring move, jumped from a window to distract the robbers and lead them away from his family. Despite the traumatic experience, Osikoya's parents showed remarkable bravery and resilience. Her father managed to hide under a bed in the boys' quarters, while her mother locked the door and prayed for his safety.
The robbers eventually fled, and Osikoya's parents were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Miraculously, they survived the ordeal, and Osikoya has credited their courage and selflessness for saving their lives.

I had 3 young kids and 3 robbers got into our home at 10mins to 3pm... 2 batched into our bedroom with big guns.. it was like a dream, my husband and I were under the duvet naked.. my husband gave me the duvet and I started dragging it around to on the light, and open the other doors, the first robber dragged my gold necklace and kept shouting where is the money, a gun was already put on my husbands head and he was on the floor, I head a gun shot and started shouting Ya Allah... I thought he killed a child, he beat the living day out of me for shouting and reciting Quranic verses, he said I wanted to arouse the neighbours... the operation lasted for 40mins, it was the most horrific night ever, my husband was already telling me in yoruba to take care of the kids incase he doesn't make it...
