Asake's paternal aunt speaks out on singer's rift with father
  • Nigerian Afrobeats singer Asake's aunt has addressed rumours about his feud with his father in a recent interview
  • Seeking to clarify the situation, she revealed that Asake's mother left his father when he was a child, which allegedly caused the rift between them
  • Her statements have sparked mixed reactions online, with many expressing frustration over family members publicly discussing Asake's matters and assigning blame

Iyabo Odunsi, paternal aunt of Nigerian singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has weighed in on the ongoing tension between the artiste and his father.

In a recent interview, she alleged that Asake’s mother left his father when the singer was still a child and later married Musibau Alani, a young musician who had attended Asake’s naming ceremony.

Odunsi claimed that Asake’s mother played a major role in the strained relationship between father and son but did not provide specific details on how this happened.

Odunsi explained,

" Whether Asake pays his father or built a house for him is not of my knowledge because I don't stay in Lagos; however, Fatai Odunsi calls me for assistance once in a while."

She insisted that Asake’s mother was the root cause of the estrangement. She recounted a memory from Asake’s early years, stating,

"A young musician came for Asake's naming ceremony, and he was not even three years old when she left to marry that same man."

Lamenting the current situation, Odunsi added,

Now that the child has grown, and the father has a stroke. I have never heard of a child neglecting his father. Fali, you have already given birth to Malo; you should not seek his death, so why must you turn the back of the child against his father?”

This comes amidst reports that Asake has agreed to take responsibility for his daughter and father, following pressure from fans. In a another interview, Asake's father revealed that his son has pledged to support him financially.

The controversy surrounding Asake's family has drawn considerable attention, prompting reactions from netizens who criticised the public scrutiny of the artiste’s personal life.
