Afrobeats sensational singer Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, recently joined the train of Nigerian artistes who have sold over 500,000 units in the United States of America (USA). 

With his fourth studio album, ‘Love, Damini,’ Burna Boy joined Wizkid, Tems and Rema, who had earlier sold over 500,000 units with their projects. 

Via an X (formerly Twitter) post, on Tuesday, October 22, Album Talks shared the list indicating the new addition of Burna Boy’s Love, Damini on Nigerian albums with over 500, 000 unit sales in the US. 

Meanwhile, this recent feat means that Burna Boy’s Love, Damini is qualified for Recording Industry Association of American (RIAA) Gold certification in the US. 

Nigerian albums with over 500,000 unit sales in the US

  • Made in Lagos — Wizkid 

In 2022, Afrobeats singer Wizkid’s Made in Lagos was announced as the first Nigerian album to have hit over 500,000 units sales in the US and got a gold certification. 

  • Rave & Roses — Rema 

In 2023, Rema’s Rave and Roses sold over 500,000 copies in the US and was certified Gold as the second Nigerian album to hit the peak. 

  • For Broken Ears — Tems 

In May, 2024, Tems debut EP, For Broken Ears also sold over 500,000 copies in the US. Not only was it the third Nigerian album to hit the gold certification mark, it was also the first by a Nigerian female artiste. 

  • Love, Damini — Burna Boy 

The fourth and latest Nigerian album to achieve 500,000 units sold in the US is Burna Boy’s Love, Damini. This qualifies it for the RIAA gold certification. 

Global Impact List: Ayra Starr, Tems emerge as Spotify’s most streamed artistes 

Earlier, TheRadar reported that Nigerian Afrobeats artistes, Tems and Ayra Starr emerged at the top of the Global Impact List unveiled by popular streaming platform Spotify for the first half of 2024. 

Through their songs, these artistes were recognized by the streaming platform. Their songs, according to spotify, have the most listens from outside Nigeria between January 1 to June 30. 

Ayra Starr secured the first and second spots with her songs Santa featuring Rauw Alejandro and hit single Commas. On the other hand, Tems took third spot with Love Me Jeje.
