Nollywood in recent times seems to be intentional in documenting historical perspectives of Nigerian history with numerous producers exploring fictional biopics and epics.
From Tunde Kelani’s Ayinla to Lateef Adedimeji’s Lisabi: The Uprising, and Bolanle Austen-Peters’ House of Gaa, Nollywood actress Fathia Williams is next in line.
In an X (formerly Twitter) post, on Tuesday, October 22, the legendary actress teased her upcoming biopic, ‘Efunroye: The Unicorn’, in an attempt to explore a part of Yoruba culture and history.
“Power. Trade. Legacy. She was more than a warrior, she was a ruler who rewrote history. ‘Efunroye: The Unicorn’ is coming to your screens soon! Are you ready?” she announced.
The character adaptation for Faithia Williams' film is Efunroye Tinubu, who was a powerful female aristocrat. Hailing from the Egbaland in the 18th century, Efunroye was politically and economically influential in that era.
Meanwhile, as anticipation gears for the upcoming historic biopic, the release date is yet to be disclosed. The film is produced by Faithia Williams Balogun.
