The Swedish government has announced the opening of applications for the Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals 2026, a fully funded programme for international students seeking to pursue master’s degrees in Sweden.

The Swedish Institute confirmed that the application window opened on Monday, February 9, 2026, and will close later in the month, giving prospective applicants only a brief period to apply.

According to a post on the institute’s website on Monday, February 9, the scholarship targets experienced professionals interested in advanced education and leadership development ahead of the 2026 academic year.

The SI Scholarship is aimed at individuals with strong professional and leadership backgrounds who plan to contribute to development in their home countries after completing their studies.

The Swedish Institute outlined the benefits to include full tuition coverage for eligible master’s programmes, with fees paid directly to universities; a monthly stipend of SEK 12,000 to support accommodation, food and daily expenses; a one-time travel grant of up to SEK 15,000; and access to the SI Network for Global Professionals, which provides leadership training, professional workshops and international networking opportunities.

The award supports full-time one- or two-year master’s programmes taught in English at Swedish universities across several disciplines, including governance, public health, entrepreneurship and innovation, and STEM fields.

The scholarship is strictly open to global professionals with verified work and leadership experience.

“Applicants must be citizens of one of the 34 eligible countries, which include: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Ethiopia, Georgia, Guatemala, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Liberia, Malaysia, Mexico, Moldova, Morocco, Nigeria, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Zambia,” SI added.

The institute further noted that applicants must provide documented work experience gained through employment, freelancing or business activities, as well as proof of leadership roles in professional or civil society organisations.

Admission, or conditional admission, to an eligible English-taught master’s programme in Sweden for the autumn 2026 intake is also required.

The Swedish Institute stressed that candidates must first apply for a master’s programme through Sweden’s official University Admissions platform, as scholarship applications submitted without a valid programme application will not be considered.

Prospective applicants have been advised to begin preparing their documents early, including proof of work experience, leadership credentials, motivation statements and the official templates required by the institute.

All applications will be screened and evaluated, with university admission decisions released first, followed by the Swedish Institute’s announcement of final scholarship recipients. Successful candidates will then receive guidance on travel arrangements and preparations for their studies in Sweden.

The application window for the SI Scholarship closes on February 25, 2026, and all scholarship documents must be submitted within this period after completing the master’s programme application process.
