Netizens heap praises on Kuda Bank for not making unnecessary deductions from customers' funds.
  • An X user took to the internet to share how the twelve thousand naira (#12,000) he left in his Kuda account remained intact after two years
  • In the post, he claimed he was wrongfully credited and had called upon Kuda to return the money to the rightful owner
  • The post drew numerous reactions from Nigerians who gave kudos to Kuda while discrediting commercial banks who would have depleted the money with various deductions

People have praised a fintech, Kuda Bank, after an X (formerly Twitter) user went online to share that the money he left in his account had remained intact after 2 years.

The user, identified as @iam_temmy claimed that he was wrongfully credited and messaged the bank’s customer unit to refund the sender. However, after two years of ignoring the account, he logged in again, only to meet the exact amount he left there.

He tweeted on June 5, 2024 that: “Dear @joinkuda, please revert this money to the rightful owner. I didn't use the account since over two years; I signed in now and the money is still there.”

He had responded to a similar tweet he made in 2022 calling on one Olabosipo Bassey that mistakenly credited his Kuda account, in an attempt to refund him.

What surprised many netizens was not even the man’s sincerity to return the money but the fact that the money had not reduced by a kobo. Customers of commercial banks were quick to name and tag their banks to see ‘their mate’ and how money kept in an account was intact.

Reactions trail man’s Kuda account balance

The post made by @iam_temmyyy raised several reactions from Nigerians who were shocked to see that the money remained intact unlike the unpleasant experiences they have had from commercial banks.

TheRadar compiled some of the reactions below:

Wait, omo you left #12,000 in a Nigerian account. 2 years later the money is still there? Kudos to Kuda. GTBank and Zenith are very angry right now with kuda.”

@king_leo4u commented:

You left 12k in there in 2022 and it is still intact, waoh. I know of banks that would have deducted 11k. You also know the banks.”

@Nwunyeegombute3 said:

“2 years? abi 2 minutes? Access bank would have turned it to minus 5000 naira by now.”

@luqmanola60 wrote:

@myaccessbank can you see your life, I left 1k in your bank for just 3 weeks, una turn am to #70. @joinkuda, una get level mk I first open your bank show gratitude.”

Commercial banks trending for the wrong reasons lately

Meanwhile, traditional banks have been trending on the internet lately for fluctuations in their services.

There have been mass complaints by users and customers as a result of poor services. Earlier this week, the license of Heritage bank was revoked by the Central Bank of Nigeria because of their failure to meet the requirements stated in Section 12(1) of The BOFIA Act 2020.

Fintechs have been gaining popularity and credibility lately because of their high-quality customer service. Nigerians have repeatedly called on commercial banks to improve their services to meet their expectations.

Banks closed by CBN between 2000 and 2024

Meanwhile, TheRadar also compiled the list of the 21 banks that were closed down between 2000-2024 by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

This suggests that the closure of Heritage Bank was not the first time such would happen in the banking industry.
