Dr. George Nwaeke, the Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, has resigned from his position, a statement released by the office of the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), confirmed on Tuesday morning, March 25.
The resignation comes shortly after the suspension of former Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The announcement was made through a statement issued by the Chief of Staff to the Sole Administrator, which also acknowledged Nwaeke's contributions to the administration.
In his remarks, Vice Admiral Ibas expressed appreciation for Nwaeke’s service, particularly during the short period he served under the current administration.
He said, “The office of His Excellency, the Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (retd.) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas CFR, is saddened to announce the resignation of the Head of Service, Rivers State, Dr. George Nwaeke, FCA, Mni. His Excellency, the Administrator appreciates the immense contributions he has shown this administration in the short period he served and wishes him well in his future endeavours.”
Following Nwaeke's resignation, Ibas has appointed Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika as the new Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG).
Worika’s appointment was also confirmed in a statement released by the Sole Administrator’s office on Tuesday, March 25.
The statement reads, “His Excellency, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retd.) CFR, the Administrator of Rivers State, is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika as the new Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG).”
Worika, a distinguished academic, international legal practitioner, and policy advisor, was chosen after a rigorous selection process, which took into account his extensive experience and credentials.
Ibas noted that Worika’s distinguished career would bring much-needed expertise to the administration as it seeks to achieve key goals for Rivers State.
“Professor Worika’s distinguished career spans academia, international legal practice, and high-level policy advisory roles, making him uniquely qualified to support the administrator in the onerous task of achieving Mr. President’s mandate,” the statement continued.
The new SSG’s appointment, which takes immediate effect, highlights Ibas’ commitment to leveraging the human capital of Rivers State to ensure peace, stability, and security.
The Sole Administrator expressed confidence that Worika’s appointment would strengthen the administration’s efforts to drive positive change in the state.
Sole administrator Ibok-Ete Ibas arrives in Rivers to resume duties
Earlier, TheRadar reported that Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), the newly appointed Sole Administrator for Rivers State, has officially arrived in the state to begin his duties.
Ibas touched down at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Thursday, March 20, where he was warmly received by key state officials and security personnel.
Upon arrival, Ibas, accompanied by the state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, and the Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 16, swiftly proceeded to the Government House in Port Harcourt.
