Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), the newly appointed Sole Administrator for Rivers State, has officially arrived in the state to begin his duties.
Ibas touched down at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Thursday, March 20, where he was warmly received by key state officials and security personnel.
Upon arrival, Ibas, accompanied by the state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, and the Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 16, swiftly proceeded to the Government House in Port Harcourt.
His arrival marked the start of his mandate in overseeing the state's administration following the declaration of a state of emergency by President Bola Tinubu.
At the Government House, Ibas was given a tour of the facilities and was introduced to various government officials.
He is now engaged in a closed-door meeting with senior security officers, a Federal Government delegation, and state government officials to discuss the immediate priorities and security concerns within the state.
Ibas was sworn in on Wednesday, March 19, by President Tinubu, following the recent suspension of Governor Sim Fubara and other state officials as part of the ongoing state of emergency.
The declaration came after a series of crises in the state, including allegations of constitutional breaches, militant activities, and escalating security challenges. Ibas’ primary role as the sole administrator is to stabilise the state, address ongoing governance issues, and restore law and order.
The people of Rivers State and political observers are expectant of how Ibas will navigate the complex political and security landscape in the coming months.
The outcome of his tenure could have far-reaching implications for the state's governance and the broader political environment.
