1. Nigeria’s Rena Wakama wins best basketball coach at Paris Olympics: Head coach of Nigeria’s D’Tigress, Rena Wakama, has been named the best women’s basketball coach at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced this prestigious accolade on August 11, concluding the Olympic Games.

Rena Wakama’s selection highlights her outstanding leadership and tactical expertise, which elevated Nigeria to remarkable success at the Games.

2. TotalEnergies targets zero emissions by 2050: As the world moves closer to a cleaner energy regime, TotalEnergies Nigeria has unveiled its strategies for achieving net zero carbon emission targets, as well as the sustainability initiative plans.

Manager, CSR Strategy and Performance, TotalEnergies Nigeria, Lucky Deekor, who made this known during a presentation at the just-concluded Nigeria Annual International Conference & Exhibition (NAICE) 2024 in Lagos, said the company had invested massively in gas and solar energies in the country, while plans were in the pipeline to expand the scope.

3. MultiChoice introduces plan for GOtv: MultiChoice Nigeria has announced a three-month Golden Window for GOtv SupaPlus, from August 10 to November 10. Customers who renew or upgrade to SupaPlus will pay N13,900 instead of N15,700.

Executive Head of Marketing at MultiChoice West Africa, Tope Oshunkeye, said customers will enjoy the new European football season and a line-up of Africa Magic dramas and movies.

4. 10 dead in Abia truck accident: No fewer than 10 passengers, among them two babies, have been killed following an auto crash at Apu na ekpu area, near the Umuika Junction, Abia State, on the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway.

In the Abia accident, it was reported that the accident occurred when a Toyota Sienna bus belonging to a transport company in the state, which was fully loaded with passengers, lost control and collided with a truck before crashing into the bush. The bus, said to be heading to Umuahia, was at high speed, lost control, and rammed into the moving truck.

5. Protest: NLC accuses FG of plot to frame up innocent citizens: The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has accused the Federal Government of a plot to frame up innocent citizens on trumped-up charges over the just concluded nationwide #EndBad Governance Protest, saying “this is not the first protest in Nigeria and would not be the last.”

NLC, in a communiqué signed by the president, Joe Ajaero, at the end of its Emergency National Executive Council, NEC, meeting on August 10, called on the government to jettison the plot and convene an inclusive stakeholders’ conclave to discuss the pressing issues confronting Nigeria.
