1. Aregbesola should prostrate, beg Tinubu – Osun Rep: The lawmaker representing the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency of Osun State in the House of Representatives, Mr Oluwole Oke, stated on Sunday, February 2, that former Governor Rauf Aregbesola should “go and beg, prostrate, and make peace” with his “principal,” President Bola Tinubu.

In a social media post, Oke, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, emphasised that if he were in Aregbesola’s position, that is exactly what he would do.

2. NCDC tightens airport surveillance as Uganda battles Ebola: Following the confirmation of an Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in Uganda, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has intensified surveillance at the country’s points of entry, including airports.

In a public health advisory issued by the NCDC Director-General, Dr Jide Idris, the agency emphasised that there are currently no reported cases of Ebola in Nigeria.

3. Nwoko defected over fear of losing 2027 ticket – Oborevwori’s aide: An aide to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Mr. Fred Oghenesivbe, has claimed that Senator Ned Nwoko’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party was motivated by his fear of losing the party’s ticket for the 2027 election.

According to Oghenesivbe, Nwoko, who represents Delta North in the Senate, has misrepresented the PDP at the national level, become disconnected from the party in the state, and fears he may not secure the PDP ticket for the 2027 election.

4. Tems wins Best African Music Performance at 2025 Grammy Awards: Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has won the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards.

She secured the award with her song Love Me JeJe, beating Tomorrow by Yemi Alade, MMS by Asake featuring Wizkid, Sensational by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay, and Higher by Burna Boy.

5. EU condemns US tariffs, warns of retaliation: On Sunday, February 2, the European Union condemned the latest tariffs imposed by the United States on Canada, Mexico, and China, warning that it will take firm action if similar measures are directed at European goods.

The statement came after US President Donald Trump announced sweeping trade restrictions, escalating tensions with key economic partners.
