As part of efforts to transition Nigeria away from petrol and diesel vehicles, the Federal Government has launched a new online platform that facilitates the conversion of petrol-powered vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and a flexible payment plan.

This initiative was disclosed by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in a statement published on its X account on Tuesday, October 8.

Platform offers conversion from petrol, diesel to CNG

The agency pointed out how simple the process is, as the platform features flexible payment plans that allow users to convert their vehicles and pay in convenient monthly instalments.

“Switching to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is now more accessible than ever. With tailored payment options, converting from petrol to CNG has never been smoother or more affordable,” the statement read.

This initiative followed the government's recent launch of a portal on October 7, which allows youths to obtain CNG-powered tricycles as part of the Presidential CNG Initiative (P-CNGi).

Michael Oluwagbemi, the Project Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of P-CNGi, emphasised that the initiative aims to enhance the economic prosperity of Nigerians by decreasing dependence on petrol and encouraging the use of cleaner, more sustainable energy alternatives.

NOA highlighted the advantages of embracing CNG, such as considerable cost reductions, diminished environmental effects, and prolonged engine life, along with enhanced safety and reliability.
