Local government workers and teachers in Ekiti State have declared support for the re-election bid of Governor Biodun Oyebanji ahead of the state governorship election scheduled for June 20.

The endorsement was announced during a meeting held in Ado-Ekiti on Monday and organised by members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).

At the gathering, labour leaders praised the governor’s welfare policies and pledged to mobilise support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate across the state.

President of the Ekiti State chapter of NULGE, Oluseyi Olatunde, said local government workers had resolved to deliver at least 200,000 votes for the governor in appreciation of what he described as the administration’s positive impact on workers and pensioners.

“Leadership is best judged by impact, and your administration has undoubtedly made a positive impact in the lives of workers,” Olatunde said.

“It is therefore not surprising that we workers and union members are willing to reciprocate your good gestures by supporting your second term,” he added.

According to him, workers believe another term for Oyebanji would strengthen developmental projects, improve staff welfare, encourage youth empowerment and promote economic growth across the state.

Teachers in the state also endorsed the governor’s re-election ambition, describing him as a leader committed to improving the education sector.

The chairman of the Ekiti State chapter of the NUT, Lawrence Egbeyemi, said the governor had earned the confidence of teachers through policies that enhanced their working conditions and welfare.

“You have performed well in office and recorded unprecedented achievements in the education sector,” Egbeyemi stated.

“Your love for teachers and passion for education are innate and genuine,” he added.

The teachers also disclosed that mobilisation structures had already been established across the 16 local government areas of the state to support the governor ahead of the election.

Responding to the endorsement, Governor Oyebanji assured workers that his administration would continue prioritising their welfare if re-elected.

He announced that outstanding leave bonuses would be paid alongside workers’ May salaries.

The governor also dismissed concerns that a second-term administration would become insensitive to the needs of residents.

“The fear of God in me and the compassion I have will not allow me to inflict hardship on the people after being re-elected,” Oyebanji said.

He further credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting his administration, noting that many projects and programmes executed in the state were made possible through federal government backing.

Oyebanji urged workers and teachers to mobilise support not only for his re-election but also for the APC ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

“We must appreciate the President with our votes because the support we have received from the Federal Government has helped us to achieve so much,” he said.
