The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has strongly rejected reports that it has adopted Peter Obi as its sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election, calling the claims “mere rumours” and a “figment of the imaginations of the peddlers.”

In a statement issued on Sunday, February 16, signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Khalid Arewa, the ZLP categorically dismissed the circulating information, which had been spreading across social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter).

The statement clarified that the reports falsely attributed to the party an offer of a free presidential ticket to Peter Obi for the upcoming election.

According to ZLP, the handle from which the false information was posted is “unknown” to the party, and they have no association with the individuals behind it.

The party emphasised that the publication does not reflect the views, decisions, or position of the Zenith Labour Party.

“The Zenith Labour Party wishes to address a misleading publication circulating on various social media platforms, including X, which falsely attributes to our party an offer of a free ticket to Peter Obi for the 2027 presidential election,” the statement read.

The party further explained that its leadership and decision-making processes are guided by the party’s Constitution, principles, and values. ZLP added that it does not entertain “frivolous and unfounded claims” and has no such arrangements with anyone regarding the 2027 elections.

ZLP reiterated that it had not begun any discussions with any individual or group about the presidential election, calling the rumours a “big lie from the pit of hell.”

In its concluding remarks, the party issued a stern warning to those trying to exploit the ZLP’s name for personal gain.

The statement threatened legal action, saying, “We warn those who want to cash in on the envious position of ZLP to desist from doing so, or we will fish them out and hand them over to the security agencies.”

ZLP also urged the public to disregard the misinformation, advising people to rely only on official statements from the party’s authorised channels.

“The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) is a responsible and law-abiding political party committed to promoting democracy, good governance, and the well-being of all Nigerians,” the statement concluded.

Reno Omokri calls out Peter Obi over his silence on threat to lives of Nigerians in Canada

Earlier, TheRadar reported that the former presidential aide and political activist Reno Omokri had called out the former presidential candidate for the Labour Party, Peter Obi, for keeping mum over the threat to the lives of Yoruba and Edo people in Canada by one Amaka Patience Sunnberger.

He said the former presidential candidate would have released a lengthy statement if it were to be someone from the North or South-West.
