Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced on Tuesday that each departing corps member from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camp will receive N100,000 each.

This was disclosed during his address as the special guest of honour at the NYSC Passing-Out Parade and Closing Ceremony for the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 Corps members held at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Iyana Ipaja.

N100,000 each for 4,254 Corps members

He said, “For this batch, we have 4,254 (Corps members), and with all sense of responsibility and because you have been very hardworking, each of you will go home with N100,000. The money will be made available by next week and your directors will credit your account.”

A video of the information was shared on Twitter, where it featured the Lagos State Governor reassuring each corps member that they would receive the N100,000 gift directly in their accounts the following week.

N5 billion for NYSC camp, employment for corps members 

Sanwo-Olu declared a N5 billion donation for building a new permanent site for the Lagos NYSC camp, along with automatic employment in the state public service for the top 100 corps members from the outgoing batch.

He also donated a 32-seater Hyundai bus for the camp's use.

“Me that served in ekiti and Fayemi in his 1st term as Governor then promised us 50,000 to be paid directly into our nysc account. As fayose win am, Till today, shi shi I never see,” Ubong Obot twitter.  

“He needs to provide jobs and not give cash...how much is 100k in this economy?” Samuel O. Dada expressed. 

“Do they have vacancies that can absorb that number? Are they all willing to stay back in Lagos/take civil service jobs? Even though the amount is small, will it's impact be meaningless? We have people scrambling for 5k giveaway on this platform nd we have states not giving a dime,” Ola_Ranger commented. 

“I still consider him the best governor so far, even though I think he could have handled end Sars a bit better,” Mr Fowosere added. 

“I don't like the idea of palliative care. These funds are good gestures but don't solve any problem. What solves the problem of corper passing out is good governance, a sound system, and job creation,” Mr Eniola tweeted.

“It’s your money it’s just in the wrong hands,” Goodwisdom Osadobe commented.  

“This politician think say them wise. Anyways,na gift but it won't stop us hitting the street and demand for a better Nigeria. Make una collect the money,” Dalabi stated. 

Niger State governor welcomes corps members with N200k each, promises them jobs

Meanwhile, TheRadar had earlier reported that Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State gave N200,000 to every Batch B, Stream 1 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) participant deployed to serve in the state. 

He expressed that the act of giving the largess was to inspire the 1,600 corps members to stay and fulfil their service duties in the state.
