The shooting, which happened on Saturday, July 13, at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, pierced Trump’s right ear and resulted in the death of one bystander while two others were critically injured.
Bola Tinubu condemns assassination attempt
Nigeria's president, Bola Tinubu, took to his verified X handle on Sunday to describe the attack as distasteful and contrary to democratic norms.
The president said, “The attack on former President Donald Trump is distasteful and goes beyond the pale of democratic norms. Violence has no place in democracy.”
“I extend my sympathies to the former president and wish him relief. I also condole with the family of the deceased and those wounded and wish them a quick recovery. Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States of America at this time,” Bola Tinubu added.
Other world leaders react to the incident
Other Presidents and prime ministers across the world have also spoken out against the assassination attempt on the Republican candidate in the US November 2024 presidential poll.

Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India said he was “deeply concerned by the attack on my friend.”
He further added, “Strongly condemn the incident. Violence has no place in politics and democracies. Wish him speedy recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased, those injured and the American people.”
The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan region of Iraq, Masrour Barzani, reacted:
“I condemn the attack on President Donald J Trump in the strongest terms and wish him a speedy recovery. My thoughts are with all the victims of this senseless act of terrorism. We stand in solidarity with the United States,”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel said, "Like all Israelis, my wife Sara and I were shocked by the horrific assassination attempt on the life of President Donald Trump.”
He further said, “On behalf of myself, my family, the Government and people of Israel, we wish President Trump a speedy recovery, continued good health and continued strength.”
“I’m shocked by the events at Donald Trump’s Pennsylvania rally today. My thoughts are with the former President, his family, and the victims of this attack. No country should encounter such political violence,” said Prime Minister Christopher Luxon of New Zealand.
The President of Philippines Bongbong Marcos Jr said, “Together with all democracy loving peoples around the world, we condemn all forms of political violence. The voice of the people must always remain supreme.”
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed: “Political violence in any form has no place in our societies and my thoughts are with all the victims of this attack.”
The Taiwan Presidential Office also showed sympathy by saying:
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to former US President Trump & all the victims affected by the deadly attack. We strongly condemn any form of political violence. Taiwan will continue to stand in solidarity with all those around the world working to uphold democratic values.”
Nigerians drag Paul Adefarasin for commenting on shooting at Trump’s rally
Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that popular cleric and founder of House on the Rock church, Paul Adefarasin, had been dragged for reacting to the Donald Trump’s rally shooting incident.
Many on social media asked Adefarasin where he was when electoral violence was happening in his country and backyard.
